Daily Prompt: Call Me Ishmael

Take the first sentence from your favorite book and make it the first sentence of your post.

“In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit. Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole, filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat: it was a hobbit-hole, and that means comfort.”

– J.R.R. Tolkien, The Hobbit (1937)

This prompt was so difficult for me. Pick a favorite book? My downfall is that I have so many books that are favorites for one reason or another. I’ve started typing this post thinking I had finally picked the one perfect book only to stop halfway through and delete everything I had written. I’ve had a 1001 different opening lines bouncing through my head shrieking “Pick me, Pick me!” I finally decided to go with the first book that hooked me on the fantasy genre.
